The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Might Solve This

Each time a prominent honors show nears, one notices an outcry to include additional classifications to honor underappreciated efforts and fill the passions of fans dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. So would tabletop games, representing a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification backing this proposal is the most urgent above others. The demand is this: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it’s very subjective, and inevitably start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that movie academies don’t do it. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise for the industry of gaming, which are so diverse they barely qualify a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications successfully include numerous genres, allowing placement for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: building puzzles in a particular game, intense tile-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers launched regularly without proper recognition in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated in any category during that awards season
  • A different innovative game received no nominations in 2019
  • Popular arranging title got ignored in 2021
  • Only a few brain-teasers managed to sneak into niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

Commonly they're modest productions, however the design in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as the most-played games worldwide maintaining this status for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges popular creative games for the title of most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks for gaming as medium, and engaging with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. You could fill a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these include experiences without proper classification in important events. Puzzle game makers function at the hard edge game development, creating some of the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Just like cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay decades.
